HOW WE HANDLE
THE 'BENGKEL FIQH PERUBATAN'
PROGRAM

As you know from the title, that was our second program last week two days after visiting the wards on friday. This progran was held at Masjid Kolej Islam Malaya which is beside the UIA foundation studies in Petaling Jaya. It started at 8 am to 1 pm on Sunday 26/04/15. The panel for this program are Dr Hamidah Mat and Ustaz Zul himself. They gave a talk about the medicicine nowadays whether it is halal or haram and 'ibadat' during sick time.

Before I told the story, why not we went back to two weeks before the program. We were assigned to each post to ease the flow of the program before and after. Firstly, of course we must find the participants for this program. To do that, we published the poster of the program. The targeted participants is 100 people because it was opened to all range of age. We publish the poster through Facebook, WhatsApp and many more. Finding the participants was hard as we do not know many contact with other people. Vehicle was also one of the reason why it is hard in finding participants as they had to go there by themselves from UM. However, we manage to find enough participants for the program and thankfully the problems we faced was resolved before the program in Sunday.

This is our program's poster.

As the committee of the program, we had to be there at 7 am to set up the registration desk, PA system, preparing food and drinks for the participants, and so on. That morning tasks lessen quite a bit as we had already cleaned and set up the place with chairs a day before. We spent for about 2 hours setting up the place, starting at 2 pm to 4 pm on Saturday 25/04/15. Registration started at 8 am to 8.30 am. there are three of us handling the registration.

This is how the arrangement of the place for that day.

They are arranging the book brought by Dr Hamidah Mat to be sold.

Preparing the food for the participants. It was fried noodles and a bottle of mineral water.

 Registration time.

This is all of us that day at the registration table before the program started.

The program started with talk from Dr Hamidah Mat, a lecturer at UIA and she is a medic panel in fiqh.

Dr Hamidah Mat giving her talk. She talks about the fiqh issue in medic. As an example like can we took a medicine that contain alcohol and pig, plastic surgery issue and problems that comes up during fasting month.

Then the time for a break came at 10 am and last until 10.45 am. Dr. Hamidah Mat, Ustaz Zul and all of the participants were invited to have a little feast before starting with Ustaz Zul in the 2nd slot.
At this time, we took the chance to take a photo with Dr. Hamidah.

Dr Hamidah at the centre.

The participants asking Dr's autograph on the book that they bought.

Continuing with the 2nd slot by Ustaz Zul about 'ibadat' during sickness time. There are also a demonstration by Ustaz on how to practice it correctly.

Ustaz was the last panel so it ended at 1 pm.

For this program, I learned how to handle a program like this and if there is a program like this again in the future and I am a part of it I hope that I can  do better with what I have learned and gained.
Other than that, I did not take part in listening to Dr Hamidah's talk because I am at the registration table but I did get to listened to Ustaz. What I gained that time was that we should be prepared as we do not know when we will get sick. So we should learned how to serve god during that time. According to Ustaz, many people who got sick made that as an excuse to not pray or do any ibadah during their ailimg time which made them further away from their god. I pray to Allah that, I hope I  am not one of these people in the future. Amin.

For this program, we suffer a lot because as students we don't have much time to focus on outside activities. However, due to our teamwork, we manage to get enough participants and manage to handle the workshop. My job during this workshop is to become a technician, but, since I live in PJ and I can drive a car, I need to be the driver to bring the participants from UM to UIA mosque. Since I drove my own car. I also need to buy and bring all the item needed for this program. I struggle a lot because during that day, Colour Me marathon were held around UM and need to bring most of the item from Sahabat PPUM office which is only accessible via Medical Faculty of UM. However, this activities avouritebring me satisfaction because I cam do my favorite activity while managing the workshop.

Maryam:

Handling this event was indeed a new experience for me. I was the one who's in charge in handling to food. So it was my first time doing this kind of thing. I had to call here and there and made an agreement for the food that we wanted that day. And Alhamdulillah it went very smoothly :) And from the event, I've learned so many things from Dr Hamidah and Ustaz Zul like how to mange sick people's wudhu and their prayer and how we should not forget God at any time especially when we're sick because He's the only one who can cure us.

~FARHANAH~ =D

Saya - AJK AKTIVITI. So skop kerja saya
  • cari peserta untuk bengkel fiqh perubatan (dlm 100 org)
  • buat senarai nama peserta
  • jaga kaunter pendaftaran (hari kejadian)
So sebelum hari kejadian, kami satu kumpulan bertungkus lumus mencari peserta. So guys, GOOD JOB!

Pada hari kejadian, saya bertugas menjaga kaunter pendaftaran. Alhamdulillah berjalan lancar.

Highlight - Orang koma pon perlu solat.(certain koma).

Amin.

FANCY MEETING AGAIN....

Assalamualaikum and hi to all.

This is our new update. :-))

This is our second visit on 24/05/15 - Friday

For our visit this time, the flow is about the same as the last visit. The difference between our last visit and the visit this time was that the one who briefs us is Dr. Hateem. Dr. Hateem is a friend of Ustaz Zul Amirul and also a member of Sahabat PPUM. A bit about his background is that he is still a new doctor there as he just finished his degree in medic.

This is during briefing with Dr. Hateem. The man who is standing is Dr. Hateem.

After the briefing by Dr. Hateem, Ustaz Zul gives us an assignment to observe how we approach the patient and what do we get and give them in return. Then, we fold the towels and then comes the break session.

This is our gift to the patient. It consists of a towel, drinks and Jacob's.

Then begin our visit. In this visit, we are together with a group of nursing students form for about 10 groups of two persons group. We gather at Anjung Siber for each group to get their gift for the patient we're going to visit.

For this week, we visited the wards that placed adults men and women whom we could call uncle, auntie, grandpa and grandma. Those wards are nefrology and dialysis ward and urology ward. Most of the patients in the nefrology and dialysis ward have kidney problems due to diabetes. Urology ward is for patients who have problems with their urinary tract system and reproductive organ.

The wards we visit.

Unfortunately, phone are not allowed. So, we can't take a picture with the patient.

The end of the visit marked the end of our program.

Thus, our program on 24/04/15 ended successfully.

~WAN~

The most memorable thing during my visit this time is that, there is one particular patient which give me a lot of thinking. This patient is a 70 years old female who just checked in that day because she was tripped and broke her hand. We greeted her and have a little chat with her. She told us about her children's joke. They told her that the hospital had become her 2nd home and then my partner, Aisyah said that if she is healthy again, the hospital won't be her 2nd home anymore but she replied the she will always has a second home. We were curious about her 2nd home. So we asked her. She said that the grave will be her 2nd home. Hearing that both of us kept silent as we do not know how to respon. After that, I thought about how to respon to that type of talk. I gain the answers when I told my friend about her. According to my friend, everyone have the grave as the 2nd home and the only difference is that the time we all went to it. That really leave a deep feeling to me, thinking that I truly should treasure and spend my time carefully and cheerfully. The assignment given proved to be useful to us in enhancing our communication skill with the patient.

~~MUHAMAD AZFAR~ALPHA~~

Today is my first time visiting the wards at Menara Timur of PPUM (East Tower of UMMC), The wards that I visit are Nephrology ward and Urology ward. This time we (as a Faculty of Science students) collaborate with some Nursing students from UMMC. The purpose of this collaboration is to gain more knowledge on how to treat much older patient. The nursing students usually will visit the patient on Thursday while we usually visit on Friday. Since we collaborate for this time, we have special treat for the patient and their family which are biscuit and drinks.

Our visit this time is a kind of special one. This is because the patient are older and older patient like to talk with the volunteer about their life experience so that we can learn some moral values when we talk with them. I learnt that most of the patient here were sacrifice themselves so that their children can have a normal life like other children. For example, the patient that I visit is a man which is already reach 50 years old from Klang. He actually a patient from Oncology ward(Cancer ward). He was transmitted to Urology ward because he has kidney stone. He was accompanied by his wife. They said that they don't want to burden their child as their children are still school children. They didn't tell the truth about the cancer to their children an that is the reason why he always accompanied by her wife only.

SITI MARYAM :

To be honest, I can see my improvement visiting the patients this second time comparing to my first one. From my first visit, I was very quiet I didn't really know what to say. But this time, I know how to communicate with the patients and it was fun. Really. The patients I visited shared a lot about their life and they even shared some nice advices which would help me in any situation in life. The second patient I visited was a muallaf(she converted to Islam years back). She had gout and I can see that she was in despair and lonely. Her daughter was out buying her food. She shared some stories with me and my partner and then she started to cry and said that she'll die. So we tried to console her and told her to be strong and insyaAllah she'll be healthy again. I was lost for words that time. It was very sad.And we read some doa for her. Get well soon, Aunty :) After all of our meeting, we gathered and we shared what we went throught that day. My friends shared a lot of stories with us.

So, from the second visit, I've learned that we should be very, very grateful for being healthy. We should not complain when we are sick and just have a sore throat cause there's more people out there who are having more difficulties than us. Secondly, we've to appreciate our parents and try our best to take a good care of them. And lastly, we've to be strong handling any situation we are in.

                                                                  aisyah :)

How Si Wei

I saw an old man lying alone at the corner of the ward. I approached him, greeted him and offered him my gift. He stared at me and opened his mouth, but no sound came out. I don't know if he is unable or unwilling to talk. Not knowing what to do, I just put down my gift and left.

FARHANAH

For the second visit, I think there is improvement compared to our last visit. We can prolong the conversation now. Due to the task given by ustaz, we got something to ask to the patient such as their name, age, country and so on. At least we got some topics or ideas how to start a conversation. With my partner, Aisyah Kamarol, we approached a woman in early-40 who doing her dialysis. Her name is Ummi. She is from Indonesia.

We explained to her that we are from SAHABAT PPUM and we are giving free foods for them. She asked us to open the biscuits' box because she was too hungry. She didn't eat anything since early in the morning. no wonder. Well we had a chat-chat with her. After a few minutes, we left to give her some space to rest. She needed sleep, I know.

VISITING TIME!!!
Assalamualaikum and hi to you all, this is our update for our last activity which is visiting the pediatric ward at Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya. As we have said in our last post, this activity is collaboration of our group with Sahabat, which is an organization of volunteering under NGO.

Okay, now is the update, on 03/04/15 at 3.00 p.m. we gathered at Sahabat's office at second floor of main tower at PPUM. There, Ustaz asked us to do a bit of re caption about his last explanation about being a volunteer and then we did a simulation on how to have a conversation with the patient. On that time,  we could feel how hard it is to drag a conversation long enough to make the patient enjoyed our accompaniment. According to Ustaz, we have to at least spent about 2-4 minutes on one patient. 2-4 minutes is actually really long. We can ask many things but we have to take care of their feelings by not asking any sensitive question like asking about their illness. Therefore, we have to mind every word that came out of our mouth. :-). This is really a new experience for us.
After that long re caption and simulation time, we started discussing our upcoming activities especially for the fiqh workshop because we helped in organizing the event, so we discuss on dividing the workload to each of our member.

This was during the time of discussion. Sorry, I kind of forgot to mention that there was another group joining our visit this time. That group is also from University of Malaya. They are from Sekretariat UM. They arrived a bit late, so while waiting for them we discuss about our upcoming activities.

Then here comes the visiting time.

Here is all of our members with Sekretariat UM. Look at how excited everyone is for their first visit to the ward.

On our way to the ward.

For the visit this time, we were divided into two groups. One group will visit the ward on the 5th floor and another on the 6th floor. Each group consists of 5-6 members and then that group will be divided again to 2-3 members for one patient. So there are totally 4 groups, 2 on the 5th Floor and another 2 on the 6th Floor.

The two groups was on the 6th Floor. There are no picture for the 5th Floor group because we forgot to take it.LOL. Haha.

VISITING TIME!!!

The total patient that we visited that day was 96 patients. For the gift, we gave them the towels that we have folded them in Sahabat's office. Thus, our day end. We felt tired but on the same time feeling accomplished. ;-)).

~WAN~
For our activities this time, I'm glad I went through it. Through this activities, I learned to be grateful as Allah lent me a healthy body and time, which we always took for granted. It makes me think that during our struggling with studying and busy with the never ending project of college and faculty, this kid especially on the 6th Floor which is an Oncology Ward for children are fighting with their disease hardly for each passing days and what amaze me most is that they can still smile brightly. I was told by Ustaz that Pediatric Ward are the easiest ward to visit. Remembering that, I thought to myself that I have to be stronger to face these patient. Wish me luck...:-).

~~MUHAMAD AZFAR~(ALPHA)~~
This is my third time working with Sahabat PPUM. As I mention earlier in previous post, I am an official Sahabat PPUM member. So at that day, I came at 10.00 a.m. as I thought that my help is needed for the activity in the evening. I thought that Ustaz Zul Amirul is going outside to buy something for the activities, but I ended up in folding the towel because Ustaz has a lot of commitment need to do. It is not a bad thing because I folded more than 70 towels at that time. (For your information, I love to help people and it’s already become my hobby).During our visits, we visit two wards for each group. For my group, we visit pediatric ward and pediatric oncology ward. At pediatric ward, we visits a few children and talk with their family. From the conversation, they admit that is was their carelessness that cause their beloved child to ended up in hospital. (So, the moral of this story is, you need to take care of your family especially your children or young siblings so that they won’t do anything harmful). Our second ward is pediatric oncology ward. At here, we see a lot of children with tumor and most of the children are crying because of the pain suffered by them. At here, we managed to talk and play with some of the children and make our visit at that time meaningful to us and meaningful to them also.

FATIN HUSNA
The time to practice our skills and knowledge finally came. I totally excited to meet the pediatric patients. First, my group visited a ward in 7th floor. The patients in this ward are mostly babies and the oldest we met maybe around 3-years-old. The environment were totally shocking to me. Seeing babies with many tubes around their tiny bodies were not a good sight. In this ward we only got to talk with parents thankfully without much trouble. Most of them were cooperative and happy to see us maybe because they were tired already, but we were they to talk to them. When I was in this ward, I kept thinking about my nieces and nephews who are the same age as the patients. I really hope the patients will recover quickly, go home and become active just like my nieces and nephews.Next, we went to the pediatric oncology ward. Cancer patients are placed here. The process was the same just like the early ward. We got to chat with parents only because the children were either sleep or did not know how to talk as they are too young. To end our visiting session, I was glad to come across this 7-years-old boy. He was warded to do chemotheraphy. Despite his condition, he is cheerful and talk a lot with us. This young boy really touches my heart. In conclusion, I should say that the boy inspires me to do this community service with an open heart, to be more cheerful and to improve my social skills so I can interact more.

SITI AISYAH BINTI KAMARO RIDZUAN

 How Si Wei

I saw an old man lying at the corner of the ward with no one beside his bed. I approached him, greet him and offered him my gift. He stared at me and opened his mouth, but no sound came out. I don't know if he is unable or unwilling to talk. Not knowing what to do, I just put down my gift and left.

~FARHANAH~

Really break my heart when I saw babies full of wire in his/her body. Don't know what to do. Keep staring at them. Blank. Tears started to accumulate in my eyes. YA ALLAH.. So pity when I look at them. In their early ages, they need to struggle to live. They just born to this world and yet had been given a great test. Be strong dear babies. Your parents need you. Fight. Fight against your disease. You can do it. And to Syauki, I really admire your smile. You always smile when you speak. Happy to see you can smile like that. I hope you can get well soon so that we can talk about UPIN IPIN the whole day. Be strong Syauki. Fight okay. DON'T EVER GIVE UP.
